Congratulations Alycia and Mike – Student Essay Contest Winners!
The AASRO Board of Directors would like to congratulate Alycia, from
George McDougall High School in Airdrie, and Mike of Father Michael
Troy Catholic School in Edmonton, for being selected as the winners in
the Senior and Junior High categories of the 2008 Student Essay
Contest. This year’s topic “Electronic Communication vs Face 2 Face:
How will today’s wired world affect tomorrow’s personal relationships?
Are we really LOL?” brought out a lot of creative writing and it was
tough picking the top three. Thank you to all of the students who
submitted an essay.
As the winners, both Alycia and Mike will have the opportunity to present
their essays to the delegates and guests at the November 2008 Safe
Schools Conference in Edmonton. But the big prize is a $2,500
scholarship for Alycia to use towards her post-secondary education and
Mike will be awarded $1,000 that can be used towards many different
personal educational options or his future post-secondary education.
Our second place winners were Maddie from Duchess School and Victoria
from Vincent J Maloney Catholic School. Third place was awarded to
Brady of Lord Beaverbrook Senior High School and Vrudali of Kate
Chegwin School. Once again, congratulations to our winners!
