Student Essay Contest Returns in 2008

The Alberta Association of School Resource Officers is pleased to announce that the Student Essay Contest will be returning in 2008. The contest was put on hold last year due to a funding shortfall and lack of corporate sponsorship. We are still in the process of securing a permanent/multi-year sponsor, but AASRO was able to generate extra revenues that will be used to fund the scholarship prize money for the essay winners. An official announcement on the topic will be made this month!

AASRO is still working on developing a specific topic but it will centre on mentoring. We feel this is a topic that is very relevant to the role of the SRO and one that the students will have positively experienced. We will be accepting essays from both Junior High and Senior High students until May 7, 2008 and the winners will be announced in June. The selected essay winners not only receive a scholarship prize topping out at $2500.00, but they and their families will be invited to the 2008 Safe Schools Conference in Edmonton to present their essays to the audience.
