Recognizing One of Our Own - 2010 Youth Officer

Cst. David Henry

2010 Youth Officer - Cst. D. Henry

The Youth Officer of the Year award is to recognize one Alberta officer’s outstanding work in contributing beyond the job, and for the best exemplifying commitment, leadership, and service to their respective community, students and school(s).

This year AASRO Board of Directors is pleased to announce Cst. David Henry as the recipient of this year’s Youth Officer Award.

Cst. Henry was nominated for his exceptional work as a Youth Officer in St. Albert, Alberta. He embraced his role, both during work time and after work hours. Cst. Henry always looked for opportunities to interact with all groups of youth at his schools. He attended field trips, football games and other sporting events, band concerts, School Council meetings, drama presentations and even got his hair cut at the cosmetology class.

Cst. Henry worked very hard to open up the lines of communication between himself the students, all students and even parents had access to his cell phone number. This gave students the opportunity to call or text him to look for advice and provided access even after work hours.

Cst. Henry made such an impact on his students that after finding out Cst. Henry’s departure to another Detachment, they started a protest on facebook. A student started the protest to keep Cst. Henry in St.Albert and at the end of June 2010, there were 993 students that had joined in on the protest.

For those reasons and more Cst. Henry is very much deserving of this award.

In July 2010, Cst. Henry received a transfer to Airdrie RCMP Detachment and is now currently working as a School Resource Officer in that community.

Congratulations Cst. Henry!

Recognizing One of Our Own - 2009 Youth Officer

Cst. Jason Lefebvre

2009 Youth Officer - Cst. J. Lefebvre

The Board of Directors of the Alberta Association of School Resource Officers (AASRO) is pleased to announce Cst. Jason Lefebvre as the recipient of this year’s Youth Officer Award.

The Youth Officer of the Year award is to recognize one Alberta officer’s outstanding work in contributing beyond the job, and for the best exemplifying commitment, leadership, and service to their respective community, students and school(s).

Approximately six years ago, Cst. Lefebvre developed a program he named PAYOFF – Police Assisted Youth Orientated Formative Fitness. PAYOFF is an alternative program that youth involved in crime and/or general disorder may voluntarily participate in rather than paying a fine or facing criminal charges. The program, a fitness program, a boot camp in which youth are run through a demanding regime for a one-hour period, three times each week, while also building on the youth’s confidence and attitude towards society.

Cst. Lefebvre has proven to be a great role model to his students and the type of officer every officer should strive to be. He has gone above and beyond the call of duty as a School Resource Officer. For those reasons Cst. Lefebvre is very much deserving of this award.

Congratulations Cst. Lefebvre!
